Bruce House was established in 1988 with the generous support of a number of local individuals who provided us with our first residence. Since then, Bruce House has grown to encompass much more.
Our Supportive Independent Living Program manages 40 apartment units throughout the city for individuals and households living with or impacted by HIV. The REST Program (Rehabilitation and Episodic Supportive Transition) provides direct support to clients, including those not living in a Bruce House apartment, to assist with their life challenges. The Volunteer Program provides direct assistance in various ways including providing volunteer “buddies” to reduce social isolation and loneliness.
Bruce House works with the City of Ottawa, the Province of Ontario and the government of Canada, a network of community centers and agencies, local hospitals, such as the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, the Ottawa General Hospital, physicians, social service agencies and other local charitable agencies and organizations.
