The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, co-ordinated by the Global Network of People living with HIV, is one of the world’s oldest and largest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV awareness in the world. Started in 1983, the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial takes place every third Sunday in May, and is led by a coalition of some 1,200 community organizations in 115 countries.
This year’s theme was: Intensifying the Fight for Health and Rights!
Bruce House, and AIDS Committee of Ottawa (ACO), worked collectively once again to create our own AIDS Candlelight Memorial in May. The afternoon included art, music, dance, stories and sharing memories of our friends and loved ones. Art from Bruce House clients was showcased; these pieces had been created over the past several months by members of our art group within the Health & Wellness Program. ACO had a U=U display sharing clients’ thoughts.
