It’s Pride, and we have a lot to celebrate. We, as individuals and a community, have risen to the challenges and are now seeing our efforts pay off. It will take a bit more time, a bit more patience, but we are out of “blursday” and able to look forward.
This fall is all about looking forward at Bruce House. We have a 1-year Strategic Plan to guide us in the transition, and we are working on a long-term plan. We have secured enough funding to keep our food and health supports going at the current enhanced levels until the end of the year. We are discussing how services and events suspended in 2020 will be able to resume. After spending so long focussed on getting through “today” it feels great to talk about “tomorrow”!
The National Capital Pride Run and Walk is back, again as a solo event to ensure safety. Last year’s Run raised a record-breaking $8300 to support people living with HIV! Please sign up to run or walk on August 28 – sign up at NCPR.ca!
If cycling is more your thing, then Inner Soul Yoga & Cycle’s Pride Ride for Bruce House is for you! Two outdoor spin classes will be held on August 21, the first for beginners and the second for those with more mileage on their bike saddles. The event includes entertainment and proceeds will support our clients – see the Facebook page for more.
On August 27 join Bruce House and other community groups at an info-fair planned by Max Ottawa. Expect health information, games, and music—detailed are still being worked out.
Throughout the month of August the Adult Fun Superstore will match all donations to Bruce House made at the store! Head over to pick up something fun and help them Double the Love.
Before closing, thank you to all of you for being there. Your support has been outstanding. We did see a 70% drop in revenue from fundraising events—which is to be expected given that most event had to be cancelled and A Taste for Life occurred during a lockdown—but donations to Bruce House have remained steady! In a time of great financial uncertainty this is wonderful.
Thank you for gifts, for your trust, and for your compassion.
Happy Pride!
