We are always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to support our clients. Bruce House is thrilled to announced these new and renewed initiatives:
Health Promotion
Thanks to South East Ottawa Community Health Centre and Centretown Community Health Centre, Bruce House clients can now access one-on-one health drop-in sessions. These will be scheduled on a monthly basis, clients will have a 30-minute session to receive support and information on topics such as cancer and diabetes screening, access to primary care, stress management, mental health support, and chronic disease prevention. We are grateful to Asma and Elizabeth for their time and professional services.
In the past we have also provided client socials centered around education, screening and referrals for diabetes, cancer & heart health.
CADWO-HIV PENs Project
In Ontario, ACB women are overrepresented among new HIV diagnoses. This overrepresentation of ACB women is believed to be in part due to social and structural factors, such as HIV-related stigma, gender discrimination and racial discrimination.
This study seeks to create, implement, and evaluate an ACB community-based peer-led intervention to improve access to HIV prevention and care for ACB women in Canada.
Bruce House will serve as a partner organization and a site for the Peer Equity Navigators (PENs) community outreach training (practicum), an integral part of the CADWO-HIV project. (Principal Investigator Dr. Josephine Etowa)
