Ottawa needs to declare a Food Insecurity Emergency

This call to action is from the Ottawa Food Bank network of agencies.  Bruce House has been part of this network since 2019.

We need your support.

We welcome the news that Smiths Falls has declared a food insecurity emergency because we know this will drive change that will benefit our neighbouring cities. But why won’t Ottawa follow suit?

For over nine months, the Ottawa Food Bank has been asking the City of Ottawa to declare a food insecurity emergency.

1 in 4 households in our city are food insecure. Declaring a food insecurity emergency would send a strong, united message to higher levels of government.

Provincial and federal governments provide no funding to the Ottawa Food Bank, and their income support programs, policies, and housing decisions have caused increased food bank usage in our city and many others.

Contact your City Councillor today. Use our online form to send an email, and join our continued plea for a declaration of emergency in Ottawa.
