Red Dress Day 2025

Today is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), also recognized as “Red Dress Day” (coined by Métis artist Jaime Black).
Bruce House joins the many calls to action to end the historic injustice faced by Indigenous communities. The red dress symbolizes the thousands of Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit individuals who are missing or have been lost to violence, a loss felt deeply across generations.

According to Amnesty International Canada, Indigenous women and girls in Canada are 12 times more likely to be murdered than non-Indigenous women and girls, and make up approximately 25 per cent of all homicide victims in spite of representing just 5 per cent of the population.

This cycle of systemic abuse and neglect must end.
