Staff Changes at Bruce House

We’ll miss you, Lorraine!

After a decade at Bruce House, Lorraine Kelly has moved on to an exciting new opportunity.

Lorraine fit right in from her first weeks—jumping in to host a restaurant for A Taste for Life, managing the annual audit, and coping with the busy semi-chaos that is a small non-profit.  In 2017 Lorraine became part of our management team, sharing the responsibilities of managing Bruce House with Linda and Doug.

We will miss her vivacious energy and warm smile.

Meet our 2023 Summer Student: Kenneth

Hello, my name is Kenneth (they/he) and I’m a member of Chippewas of Rama first nation. I’m currently studying Social Anthropology as well as Gender and Women’s studies at Dalhousie university. I grew up and attended schools in Ottawa and now live in Halifax during the school year.

My whole life I’ve been very interested in human rights and class liberation, my father comes from a non-profit housing background and my mother is a director of indigenous affairs in the Canadian government. Because of my personal interests and values Bruce House was naturally a sought-after workplace for me. I’m very happy to be working here and feel very happy with the work I’m doing as well as how it intersects with my studies and personal life.

Outside of work I’m big music and fashion person. I love to wear out-there clothes and love finding them even more. I’ve been playing guitar for a couple years and just recently decided to buy a bass and learn. I’m currently in a band and love making music as well as the culture it brings with it.
