Bruce House is one of 30 HIV/AIDS organizations in Ontario that are urging the Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Justice Policy to remove Schedule 7 from Bill 68, Comprehensive Ontario Police Services Act, 2019.
Schedule 7 would amend existing legislation that authorizes forced HIV and viral hepatitis testing in certain circumstances – legislation that already raises serious concerns about the infringement of individuals’ Charter rights. Bill 68 would shorten the amount of time authorities have to make a decision about ordering involuntary testing, and it would increase penalties significantly for people who do not submit to this testing.
